Mauao me Ruatāhuna

This artwork is one of a series of twelve mini whenua paintings. It is inspired by land formation and movement. The broken line patterns represent movement and resilience and is a pattern I have used consistently over the last two years of researching our Ngāi Te Rangi histories and tohu whenua (sites of significance). The paintings use whenua I have collected and been gifted over the last three years and come from Tauranga Moana ( Mauao, Te moutere, Matakana, Matapihi, Te Puna), Ruatāhuna and Taipa (Northland). Made from Ruatāhuna, Matakana and Mauao whenua.
